Here is what he did!
A partial list of events

By keeping all the Kosher food laws. even not eating meat and dairy together.

All family members wore head coverings like the Jews do.
The Mezuzah can be found on his door post.
Keeping the Home Purity Laws for women.
Dipping in the Mikvah, for spiritual clensing
Blowing of the Shofarr, a ram's horn
Wearing the four cornered garments:

A four cornered garment worn under the shirt with strings of knots called Tzitzits.
The knots representing God's name, Yahweh
The Prayer Shaw, A four cornered outer garment
The Tefillin, a small black box worn on the forehead with scriptures in them

There is to much to mention and tell about. He did everything possible
to experience Jewish thought and views

His family kidded him on how he looked like the leading actor
Tevye, A poor milk man, in the movie "A Fiddler on the Roof"

Here is a drawing of Mr. McCabe in his Jewish Apparel, with his long side locks,
from one of his previous books. In part 3 of this website, there is  a newer more
realistic picture of Mr. McCabe on a  Front page story about his book, "Thy God is One"

Mr McCabe did not convert to Judaism.

In his investigation, sometimes he drove 3 times a week,  up to 600 miles weekly to St Louis, Missouri to a Jewish community, shopping at there stores, eating at there restaurants, and visiting there synagogues on the Sabbath, and attending lectures by the Rabbis, eating dinner at thier homes on special feast days.  These were true Jewish Rabbis,  they walked to the Synagogues on the Sabbath in the snow or rain, wearing their big black hats and coats.

For seven years he did this, because the Rabbis are not interested in discussing  thier views with the Gentile no more than you would be interested in picking up a rattlesnake. The five years, it was difficult to get them to open up and talk to him other than polite common conversation. There is most likely not a nouther person like Mr McCabe who knows how Jewish think and can share thier view
